I was very leery about buying bunk beds on line. But I had very few options after our supposedly reputable family run furniture store here in San Diego, totally left us in a lurch after sitting on our order for a week. I had 4 adult size guests due to arrive and no beds to accommodate them for sleeping. We ordered 2 sets of the beds and 4 of the 6 mattresses. We put 1 set together the evening it arrived and the second set the following morning. Assembly takes two…unless you have an unlimited amount of books, ladders, or other devices to prop up the other end as you work. The directions were ok, BUT THE ADVICE FROM THE CUSTOMERS WAS EVEN BETTER! MANY, MANY THX TO YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE SUCH WELL THOUGHT OUT, DETAILED, INFORMATIVE REVIEWS! IT MADE THE SALE AND WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED DURING THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS! We had no problem with alignment of the pieces with the predrilled holes. There were a few problems with some of the mattress support rods being a fraction of an inch too long, but we were able to move them around until they all fit. The ladder attachment was somewhat awkward and could have been better described in the directions. The biggest problem was with the little plastic squares from Hell. They worked…eventually…but who thought that was a good idea?! Even using a flat metal tool to apply pressure to assemble these little demons was excruciating to our fingers…especially my arthritic fingers. Thank goodness there were two of us! Needless to say, the second bed was assembled in half of the time as the first. After a very interesting assembly experience and about 2 weeks of use, I can say that I am very pleased with the sturdiness and stability of the beds and feel that they were a great value for the price. (I regained full motion of my fingers after a couple of days
Went together pretty easily, we followed the directions closely as that was a complaint by other reviewers. The ladder rungs are small and hurt your feet when you climb them. We fixed that by cutting pool noodles to fit. All in all, my daughter loves it and that works for us.
The bed does come in pieces and you do have to put everything together, but the tools needed to do that is included in the packaging.
The assembly is easy enough that if you can put together a Billy bookshelf from Ikea or know how to bake a cake from a boxed package you should not have any trouble getting this thing together.
A couple of pointers:
1. make sure you have enough room to get this thing together. I assembled the bed in the location that I use the bed and it worked fine, but if that space were smaller I would have had to construct the bed somewhere else.
2. Pay attention to how the pieces are shown in the instructions. The bed definitely has an upside and a downside (the wheels go on the down side. I can see how someone could easily get some of the pieces together upsidedown if they werent careful.
Other than that, the bed is strong enough to hold at least 300 lbs and uses a twin size mattress. An adults could sleep on this bed without trouble. I didnt find the bed uncomfortable, but some people could have trouble getting up considering the bed holds the mattress about 3 inches off the ground.
I would definitely buy this bed again.
I ordered this bed a week ago and was able to build it over the weekend. There are good reviews already so I wont go over what too much over what has been said, only things that may help during the building of the bed if you decide to purchase.
First, instructions in the beginning are wrong. Certain pieces are numbered 1 8. The instructions reference for example pieces 1 and 3 when it is actually 2 and 4. After reading other reviews, I decided to open the box and read through all the instructions the night before so that I can have an idea of where the pieces need to go even though the instructions say otherwise. If you take the time to read ahead and have a visual idea of which pieces go where, it will make things run much smoother.
It took me one person 2 x 4 hour days to build but I was building at a very leisurely rate. It could be done in one but I would recommend allotting 2 days just in case.
Another note is that the package comes in 2 pieces, the main bed portion which once built, is a complete bunk bed minus the desk. It even includes the clips to fill in the holes if you decided to not install the desk. The second box contains all the desk pieces.
One odd thing is each box contains its own set of screws/washers/etc which are assigned a letter for easy reference in the instructions. One box will contain for example a 1/4 screw referenced as the A while the other box containing the exact same screw is referenced as F. Makes no sense.
When installing the desk portion, I realized I was missing certain screws, they just didnt include enough. But I had 1015 left over from building the main bed part that I was able to use. It was just strange that the same screw was labeled as a different letter but at the end, I had all the screws I needed.
Once built, this is a very nice bed. I bought a pool noodle to wrap around the stairs since they are very thin and my daughter says it hurts her feet. I wish those pieces would have been covered in rubber.
Last tip and I believe the most important is that this same exact bed currently sells on a large mulitinational retail corporation (which I believe the name and price cant be listed on for much cheaper, shipping included. Same exact bed made by . I will leave it to you to do some research for the deal.
All in all, we are very satisfied with this bed.
I bought this item because my family was coming for a visit and I needed extra beds. The trundle bed was easy to put together and it took me less than an hour from start to finish. The instructions were easy to follow and there were no missing parts. I also bought the signature sleep essential 6inch twin mattress. Even though I had measure the estimated dimensions, I was still relieved that the complete unit (trundle w/ mattress fit perfectly under the daybed. I should also report that the person using the new bed (6 nightssaid it was comfortable. Thanks .
We bought two after reading many reviews, for our girls to have an Lshaped loft. Love them! I can say that even though they are tied together, they do wobble a little bit when i climb up in it. The step bars are hard on the feet too, all in all a great purchase!
Im giving it 5 stars because I got it on sale for less than 130, no tax and free shipping. A little personal modification and its perfect, love it, love it, love it. And s customer service is the best.
