The middle shelf did have scratches. But Im not complaining at this time. A small scratch repair pen comes in the box but it didnt try it out.
It took me 1 hour to assemble by myself. I made one goof, mistaking the top for the bottom and had to restart. That probably added 15 minutes to my time to complete.
The box is quite heavy, but when assembled it seems lighter. In using this in a game room for a Large TV and then a number of old video game systems. So i wanted the shelving underneath for those all to go. And all of the other bookcases etc in the room is black as well.
